Baths

In colonial days most people said water was unpure. They thought it was not safe to take a bath.

Other people thought that a person should take a bath once a year and before a special occasion. They went to the well for the water. They certainly did not drink this water.

When a perons bathed they would stand in a tub of warm water by the fireplace. Their mother would pour the water on them.

Their soap was soft and jelly-like and it was homemade. Rich people could use hard, good smelling soap from England.
